Share the road — design thinking and a safer transport system for everyone

Driving simulator, University of Waikato.2018 saw a LEARNZ virtual field trip which enables student inquiry projects on the safe system approach to developing New Zealand’s transport networks.

What: Shelley Hersey, the LEARNZ field trip teacher, was based in Waikato for Share the road and met with transport professionals.

Topics covered:

Putaruru College students talking about making their award-winning video "Hayden's Big Adventure” and discusings their ideas for safer transport. The student joined Shelley as fellow inquiry leaders on Day 1.

Getting up close to parts of the Waikato Expressway to see how it is designed as a safe system that reduces the harm when people make mistakes.

Talking to experts at the University of Waikato who investigate the future of transport. See inside their driving simulator, which is used to test new road safety features and driver behaviour.
