Bike Wise is a nationally coordinated event that promotes safety and biking as a sustainable, fun, healthy and enjoyable means of transport. Bike Wise is funded by the NZ Transport Agency and the Ministry of Health and is the only nationwide programme of cycling events.
The Bike Wise programme is characterised by three major events - ‘Go By Bike Day’, the ‘Mayoral Challenge’ and the ‘Bike Wise Challenge’, that are held during ‘Bike Wise Month’ where thousands of New Zealanders participate in cycling events held throughout the country.
Feet First encourages primary school students to walk to school with a caregiver, friend, or organised walking group at least once a week, every week, during term time.
Feet First also provides curriculum content for teachers to talk about walking in relation to safety, exploring, creativity, and saving the planet.
The Feet First project is a quiet one that works with, and beside, other projects including those already established in walking or cycling, projects which support the lowering of congestion around school locations, and health and physical wellbeing.
